Ormskirk and District Family History Society (registered charity no. 1004895) was set up in 1980, with the aim of helping people to trace their family history, and we have meetings in central Ormskirk every month except December. We publish three magazines each year, which are posted to members, and also offer an electronic version online.
In recent years we have established a Family History Help Desk in Ormskirk Library, which runs each Thursday between 10a.m. and 12p.m. Additionally, we hold a large collection of books, parish records and other useful reference material at our Research Library in the upstairs room at the Scout HQ on Wigan Road, Ormskirk; this is open to visitors on Mondays between 2p.m. and 3p.m. (except Bank Holidays). We aim to attend local public events when possible and are always happy to hear from anyone who would like to make an active contribution to our Society’s work.
ODFHS has a main website with a message board for queries, puzzles and general information at www.odfhs.website which also has links to printable membership forms. Some of our members are willing to give talks to other community groups, and we have developed a large database of the names of boat families who worked and lived on the local canal network, which is free to search at www.boatfamilies.website
