A group of Ormskirk opticians has raised a massive £2,335 for Cancer Research after walking almost 5 million steps in a month as part of this year’s ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ campaign, with a little extra help from a very generous customer.
A team of 13 from the Specsavers branch took on the challenge and raised an impressive £1,335 for the charity- and their total was boosted by local customer, Mr William Thelwell who popped into the store to deliver a cheque of £,1000 for their efforts.
Retail director Natalie Simm was shocked to receive the additional donation: ‘We couldn’t believe it when Mr Thelwell came into store to hand us the cheque. We are so incredibly grateful for the donation, and all of the support we have received from customers, friends and families. Our target was £500 so we are overwhelmed with the final figure!’
‘We also held a competition in store for the chance to win a pair of designer glasses by guessing the total number of steps we took, charging £1 per entry.’
Local school boy, Keale Fishwick, 8, guessed closest with 4,904,780.
‘We’re really proud of what we have achieved as a community and would like to thank everyone again for getting behind such a great cause’ adds Natalie.
