The 10th annual Skelmersdale Athletic Ladies football championship was a real winner all round last weekend, with the sun shining and the festivities high, the event set to raise funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young whilst celebrating grass roots women’s football.
Over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th June 2018, teams from across the nation gathered, from as young as the Under 9’s to an open age bracket, to play in this two day tournament.
The Saturday play saw the younger teams compete with the following results:
Under 9’s: Litherland
Player of the Tournament: Macie Hallsall of Norton and Stockton.
Player of the Tournament: Abi Griffiths of Northop Hall.
Under 11’s: Boldon
Player of the Tournament: Millie Cairns of Boldon.
Under 12’s: Droylsden
Player of the Tournament: Amara Keating of Droylsden
Under 13’s: Lisburn Ladies
And after a recharge of the batteries and a knock out for Germany in the World Cup on Saturday night, Sunday saw the games recommence with the older teams. Following a warm and well played day of football, the results were:
Under 14’s – Washington.

Player of the tournament: Simara Paxton of Blyth.
16-18: Norton Stockton
Player of the tournament: Shannon Read of Norton.

Player of the tournament: Sarah Greenhalgh of Burnley
